Today's Best Tools: URL Shortening and Click Through Stats Services

  • Andy Meadows · 1 year ago
    James,

We are looking forward to the results of your test! While there are a lot of click tracking services out there, at BudURL, we're focused on click tracking for serious business folks who need as much insight into click traffic as possible. Our approach is less on the social visibility side and more on helping you see what was previously invisible with traditional analytics.

Again, we're anxiously awaiting the results of your test and look forward to your feedback.

    Sincerely,

    Andy

    James,

And the list keeps expanding! My original intent is to research the *shortest* URL shorteners around (the good ones, I admit, isn’t going to stay very short for, um, very long due to heavy usage)—and investigating the analytics side is a great way to go about it. I believe that tracking at every level of the optimization process, however tedious, result in more accurate counts.

I was inspired by this seomoz article: http://www.seomoz.org/blog/the-benefits-and-pit...

@Andy, yes, it will be interesting to see what the (very basic) test reveals. I'm looking forward to it. I think it may make more sense to create an additional blog post to cover the topic in greater detail. So I "officially" reserve the right to talk about click stats in greater detail in the future.

@brampitoyo If you're going to use a URL shortening service it makes sense to go with a service that offers more than shortening a URL...such as click stats. Some people may not really care to take the time to learn about it but others will really see the value. A short URL is really useful for microblogs like Twitter where you have limited space. There are so many other things that you can use these services for beyond that.
It is tedious, isn't it? The value gained greatly increases the users ability to make changes to strategy in the future. Thanks for your comments.

We recently launched a new website that provides a URL shortening service for "multiple" websites:

    http://www.viewista.com

Viewista creates a short URL for “multiple” websites. Plus, you can view the multiple sites all at once. We think it can be a real time-saver. You can also post comments on the sites and share with your friends, making it a social URL sharing service. Viewista can be particularly useful on Twitter because a user can create a short URL for multiple sites on a topic without having to use multiple tweets.

just found Bit.ly.. does a wonderful job of shortening links, super easy to use, very organized, and includes complete realtime click stats with charts for FREE! (no paid accounts.. woot). That is exactly what I was looking for, and just what I needed! Definitely worth checking out and possibly an article?
